Screenplay undoes performances
Watching the close shots of Abhay Deol is indeed a treat. His defined jawline only adds to his ever expressive face. With his body language Abhay conveys so much of Dev's inner struggle, you begin to understand just why Chanda falls in love with him.
Dev D is a tryst with milestone cinema
Dev D is indeed a coming-of-age film, not merely for the protagonist, Devender Singh Dhillon, but it is a brilliant breakthrough for Bollywood too. It really doesn't matter whether the film ends up as a box office scorcher.
Go fall in love.
The past three generations have seen Devdas, adapted from Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay's novel, in some form or the other, the most recent being Sanjay Leela Bhansali's successful attempt in 2002. We already know the story inside out - or do we?
Missing Dev D would be an Emotional Attyachar to oneself.
No Smoking, released towards the end of 2007 was according to me the most under rated film of that year. Now Anurag Kashyap is back with a sling shot called Dev D, hitting everyone who doesn’t appreciate free spirited independent cinema.
Dev D. An engineering marvel
The whole film, as a result, seems like carefully engineered and assembled to look like an allegory. Only that it is neither subtle nor effective.
Devdas learns to rock
See Dev D once, get bombed, see it again. Coolth drips from every frame, but we already knew this director as a man of extreme visual flair, and with trusted cinematographer Rajeev Ravi by his side, there was never any doubt that a film about a drugged-up Dev would look trippy beyond belief.
A landmark film
It feels cruel to reduce this bravura attempt by Anurag Kashyap to calculating a silly score, but ultimately, I decided I had to go with simple good ol' arithmetic- simply put, four stars for the first chapter of the film and minus one for the rest.
Middling yet Sleek & Stylish
On the whole, DEV D is a good film made with best experimentations by Anurag Kashyap. And even you can watch the film for a try out and come up with commendable applause for entire team though latter half is loaded with tenuous attributes.
Dev.D: Neither Shaken…Nor Stirred
Dev.D is your quirky-movie fix at the movie hall, but nothing more. And that is a tragedy!
A must watch!
Dev. D is a brilliant film that superbly captures the society that we live in, all the while making us laugh! It’s a must watch that’s destined to go on to become one of the most memorable Hindi films of our times.
