Dostana Rocks.. Have a blast!
Dostana is a winner all the way. In terms of content, it might just prove to be a trendsetter. In terms of business, the film holds tremendous appeal for the youth. The 16 to 25 age-group would go into raptures and bonkers over this film. In Overseas too, the film should emerge amongst the biggest draws of 2008.
Rocks and Shocks
Dostana might have been a roller-coaster joyride had the director known where to take the story in the second half. The plot merely skims through the three romantic tracks without making you feel for a single one of them. So even though the film entertains you, it doesn’t touch your heart the way it could have.
Worth Seeing
This is a one of those mindless comedies which would have been more entertaining if it hadn't been for the insensitive and stereotypical portrayal of gays. The producers have gone on record saying that it is just a comedy and that the subject has been handled sensitively but this is debatable.
Overall, a huge disappointment
The film is a mindless entertainer, and probably the best way would have been to promote it as a comedy, rather than a movie on friendship and love. About 80% of the movie completely lacks logic. Dostana tries hard to entertain and it succeeds on a few occasions.
Dostana redefines the feel-gud genre and makes up for some homo-genius entertainment.
Dostana essentially employs the comedy of errors code, though not in terms of mistaken personalities but preferences. Karan Johar extends his legacy of kanta-ben humor as the crux of the story.
The eye candy is blinding.
You may not agree with its politics, but `Dostana' is all set to do for the word `gay' what `Taare Zameen Par' did for `dyslexia': bring it out of the closet. On second thoughts, being political would have made it a deeper, complicated film. All debutant director Tarun Mansukhani, and producer Karan Johar want you do is to have a blast.
Merely a frivolous flick
It's so execrable to see one of the best producers in town churning a flick sans strong substance. Was Karan scatterbrained while heeding to Tarun's script? Alas! Maybe for a young lad or missy of 16-25yrs, Dostana savors as grand fiestas of fun and frolic. While for others, it's a ridiculous flick to kill your time.
Kabhi funny, kabhi uncomfortably squishy and squirmish
This time Johar takes self-referencing to a new high and stretches the Kantaben joke into a whole film, and hence now we have Dostana, a film rich in unique irony. The film always makes an extra effort to keep the G factor at a safe distance.
Hindi cinema finally comes out of the closet.
After a point you're tempted to stop counting the number of times the word 'gay' gets in the way of the narrative. From 'Mera beta gay hai', courtesy Kirron Kher, to a 'Han main gay hoon', "Dostana" wins the how-to-say-gay-in-every-which-way award of the year.
