Don't look for a story here.
UGLY AUR PAGLI is, at best, an ordinary fare, but in the absence of a tight script, the film will face an uphill task in days to come. Don't look for a story here, for it's the moments and incidents that bind this 2-hour film together.
Both ugly and Pagli
True to its title, this one is both ugly and pagli. It needn't have been that way though if, that is, Pritish Nandy Communications had put its crew on a maximum mileage plan. In Ranbir Shorey and Mallika Sherawat there could have been a heady cocktail of humour and sex. Sadly, there are just 99 slaps and one (non)kiss!
Ugly Aur Pagli is a copy!
One isn't sure how to watch an 'inspired' film with an open mind. But for those who can, Ugly Aur Pagli is the kind of movie that will totally work.
Ugly aur Pagli – Only Pagli…
The film will find it difficult to draw in big audiences especially outside the metros. Younger college audiences may like it for its light frivolous nature but all in all the story is a let down especially after Pyaar ke Side Effects.
Slap me silly
Behind me, during the first half, a half-dozen giggly schoolgirls were eagerly counting slaps, trying to see if the film lived up to its cleverly devised '99 slaps, one kiss' tagline. Unfortunately, like the film, they stopped counting midway.
Frame by frame copy
This film is heavily inspired from the Korean romantic comedy My Sassy Girl. I haven’t seen Sassy Girl but detailed plot descriptions are available on the internet and Ugly Aur Pagli seems to be frame by frame copy.
